In the modern world character building has two meanings
When you’ve had a hard day with no sales we call it character building - challenges that make you more capable.
The other meaning of character building is internally driven - deciding what kind of character you want to be
I’ve learnt this in my own life
We often fall into the trap of aligning with the expectations of those around us - there’s constant pulls in many directions
Being true to ourselves is difficult and causes friction because it’s fluid and changes
And because choosing who we want to be means choosing who we are not
The default is the worse case is being the average of the world around us which fades into the background and means we effectively stand for nothing, like a leaf in the wind
It’s hard to say no actually this is what I stand for but it becomes more important to decide and create your own character the more capable you are because otherwise you’ll be pulled in multiple directions and account for nothing and time passes
So what do you stand for?
For me its seeing wasted human potential that really drives me - it’s everywhere in outdated systems, incorrect thinking, but clearly in our education
