Hacking Your Drive
We all have days where we are super motivated to achieve massive things, and we also have days where we are feeling less motivated and more like relaxing.
I’d like to be super motivated and to hack my drive as I think this is one of the most important things to achieve incredible things.
In many ways its much easier to drive a car than it is to drive ourselves. In a car we can easily see if fuel levels are low and if we need to change a tire. Humans are much more complex, and also more subtle. We don’t have a gauge, we have ‘feelings’ which act as the signal.
It has multiple layers
1) Your Identity
2) Your why
3) Chemicals - dopamine
4) Your energy - food, sleep, and social needs
5) Your Subconscious
6) Your environment
7) Rest / repair / drive cycle.
Also sometimes Action leads to motivation rather than the other way round. So sometimes you need to take the action.
Like a car, sometimes it is hard to get started. We need to take extra effort to get it started, but then we can just easily carry the momentum forward.
So the answer to hack your drive is to work on all of theses simultaneously but also to be able to work out where the bottleneck or critical one is, it requires inner work and listening.
Motivation was never something you either have or don’t. It’s an engine — and engines can be tuned. Start with one layer. Listen to what’s blocking you. Then get moving, because sometimes the drive only shows up after you do.
