My belief is that if things aren’t growing exponentially there’s a problem,
but exponential up close looks like a series of S curves.
I’ve realised there are the following areas I can do to improve:
Reinvesting
Content
Relationships
Thinking bigger
I understand my motivations deeply, I’m motivated to improve the huge waste of human potential by improving our systems, and to create great products and experiences.
There is always one or multiple bottlenecks and resource deficiencies - resources can be attention or finances. Bottlenecks are often a mindset and attention issue.
In terms of finance, I’ve realised I should be more proactively seeking and hungry to reinvest in the right things so we can scale up exponentially.
Content is something that I should be investing more in because it is so scalable, and can attract talent, relationships, and customers and solve basically everything.
Relationships is another multiplier that can have an exponential returns. Opportunities are usually found through people, and people want to work with people they like - and they can only work with people they know.
The reasons I've not been investing as well as I can is because that is taken up by the wrong things - energy and resources wasted. In gardening, the cutting out and pruning of a plant is an important part of growth because it enables the plant to channel growth into a certain direction rather than all directions. This is essential for a business and a person too. Up close it can look like you’re going backwards, but actually it’s the part before the rapid growth.
One specific upgrade I’ve made is around boundaries that has previously taken energy. Enmeshment is when relationship boundaries become porous, and is actually quite common in certain levels. We sacrifice our own needs for others, we take responsibility for solving others problems or helping them. It that doesn’t help them to build the skills to solve it for themselves, and it just fosters a dependency, and it can be extremely mentally draining. It happens in personal and professional life. In professional life you find it by being emotional drained, in professional by being stuck in the weeds. Clearly defined boundaries means defining what is mine and yours and enables you to growth faster.
It’s funny that often solving a problem in one area can solve things in other areas too, so the barriers you must overcome are gifts for you to solve to get to the next level.
Thinking bigger ties this all together. When you have freed up energy to invest in multipliers, you can start to think bigger which acts as a pull to become bigger.
My main areas of growth now are:
1) Fitness - to become more fit and healthy - a big part of this is because it gives benefits to think more clearly.
2) To focus more on creating content - to expand my reach and grow faster. This is driven to share what I’ve learnt, be a bridge and mentor, share my journey to help eliminate wasted human potential and to have fun doing so.
3) To build an A class team of people and give them everything they need so we can execute faster and have a larger impact and be free to grow.
4) To meet more people by going to events and reaching out which also helps with 2 and 3.
5) Building the best platform for studying abroad and over-satisfying partners that also runs and scales without me.
6) Get into online education which I believe to be incredibly scalable, with also retention challenges but I believe also complements the best platform for studying abroad and to be the bigger market.
7) In the future I’d like to explore building incredible buildings or spaces and fixing and improving more systems so we can eliminate wasted human potential and build a more abundant world.
